Goal of internship program:

  • The goal of the NFLPA’s internship program is to assist colleges and universities that allow internships by providing on-the-job training to aid in career preparation and provide relevant professional experience to students and recent graduates interested in working in the sports industry.

Requirements:

  • Students must be entering their junior or senior year of study in an undergraduate program or be enrolled in a graduate program or law school. Neither the fall nor summer internships are appropriate for doctoral students.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.
  • Recent graduates must have completed undergraduate, a graduate program or law school within one year of submitting their application.
  • All applicants must submit the following to be considered:
    • A cover letter which includes all contact information (name, address, phone, and email) and the departments which interest you (up to 2)
    • Resume
    • Transcript (can be unofficial but should be recent)
    • A list of three (3) easily contactable persons who have agreed to provide a reference for you. List should include an address, telephone number, and email
    • A response to one of the two essay questions below to demonstrate your ability to write clearly and concisely. The essay should be no more than the character limit: please do not exceed the character limit. Your name and word count should appear at the top of the page on your response.
      • Question 1: Professional athletes and other celebrities are often idolized by the public, especially young children. Many think this requires that they behave as role models at all times. Do you agree or disagree?
      • Question 2: The United States is currently embroiled in political controversies and the emergence of social justice issues surrounding race, equal rights, and other critical matters that affect all citizens. What, if any, responsibility does the professional athlete have to use his or her social media or other platforms to comment or take action on these issues?

Hours, Compensation and Housing:

Interns for the NFLPA are limited to a 27.5-hour work week. The NFLPA provides an hourly stipend of $18 and will pay commuting costs. The NFLPA does not provide housing assistance or parking, nor does it assist with, endorse, or recommend any of the following services or organizations. NFL Players Association

External Affairs (Communications)

The External Affairs/Communications intern will support the department by crafting and maintaining clear, consistent messaging regarding our union’s mission; promoting the NFLPA brand across its traditional and digital media platforms; and generating innovative ways to effectively engage and communicate with our player members.

A strong candidate for this role will be an enthusiastic self-starter who possesses strong writing skills, has proficient experience with digital media platforms (i.e. Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn), understands how to message effectively across these same platforms, works well with others, shows attention to detail and invigorates our team with a fresh perspective. Basic knowledge of Canva, Adobe and/or similar tools is a plus.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Media monitoring
    • Tracking and compiling mentions of the NFLPA on a weekly basis in the areas of breaking news, coverage of union and league events/programs, player-specific stories and more
    • Monitor general media inbox and share inquiries with the appropriate people
  • Editorial campaign planning
    • Coordinating and contributing to strategic initiatives through traditional and digital
      media around issues like player rights, 70th anniversary, health & safety, collective bargaining
  • Content production
    • Creating video, visuals and copy for social media posts with an understanding of
      our “voice” across various platforms
  • Multi-platform messaging
    • Writing press releases, editing copy and updating materials on our website and
      other digital channels
  • Research and Strategy Support
    • Identifying and evaluating candidates and opportunities for creative/media
      content production partnerships

    • Assist with deploying internal website and graphic design requests

    • Streamlining processes and maximizing efficiency for our team with thorough

Player Affairs: Wellness

The Player Affairs Department (PAD) assures that all active players benefit from programs, services, and resources to help them with their careers both on and off the field. Player Wellness is a subset of the Player Affairs Department and is dedicated to helping members maximize their potential under the pillars of Provide, Preserve, and Promote.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinician Directory
    • Assist the Sr. Manager of Wellness with maintaining the Clinician Directory AirTable; the application/recruitment process, database and licensure record maintenance, and effectiveness/utilization research.
    • Organize orientation for new clinicians, including coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
    • Assist in logistics and planning for Clinician Directory Conference scheduled for summer 2027
    • Identify Clinician Directory coverage gaps
  • Wellness Resources

    • Aide in identifying potential wellness resources for active players, including mental health, nutrition, and injury/healthy recovery resources.

Player Affairs (PAD):

The Player Affairs Department (PAD) ensures that all active players have access to programs, services, and resources that support their success both on and off the field. As a Player Affairs Intern, you will contribute to Membership Services programming, resources, and events, while supporting staff in delivering impactful, player-centered experiences. This role offers exposure to cross-functional collaboration within the NFLPA and engagement with external partners.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the development and execution of department programming, including brainstorming, planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Track and analyze data related to Player Affairs programs, resources, and events; assist in creating and presenting reports 
  • Maintain databases, update and create surveys, and generate reports as needed
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations, decks, and materials for departmental initiatives
  • Help manage internal resources by organizing inventory and maintaining tracking systems
  • Support website updates to ensure content is current, accurate, and relevant
  • Assist in planning and execution of events
  • Generate targeted marketing lists for player outreach and email campaigns
  • Manage and maintain department photo, asset, and content inventory, ensuring materials are organized, current, and easily accessible
  • Coordinate with external vendors and fulfillment partners to manage shipping and distribution of materials to players and their support networks
  • Participate in team brainstorming sessions focused on events, program development, and process improvements
  • Design promotional materials (e.g., flyers) for events and initiatives
  • Conduct audits of existing programs and identify opportunities for enhancement
  • Monitor and help manage the active player inbox
  • Conduct research to stay abreast of industry trends and emerging topics, and share insights to inform Player Affairs programming and initiatives
  • Contribute to projects across key focus areas, including Career Development, Personal Finance, Continuing Education, Collegiate Affairs, and more

Player Affairs: Former Player Services

As the Player Affairs intern, you are responsible for contributing to general Membership Services, Wellness programming and resources and events managed by the department. You will aid staff in ensuring that programming is not only beneficial for the organization at large, but for each player that engages with the organization. You will be assigned tasks by staff and will engage in meetings and conversations with different departments across the NFLPA and with external partners.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Data Integrity/Analysis – After careful training, the intern assists in removing outdated information from PA.Net and replacing with better and cleaner data.
    • Missing NFLPA.Net Data – Researching players for missing information including start year, birthday, and position.
    • Returned Mail – Contacting the player for updated information from all returned packages/letters.
    • Assist with demographic questions and usage data for players and significant other/spouse populations.
  • Content Creation – The intern helps find and design posts, links, and graphics to use across our FPSD platforms.
    • Curating Posts for social media/App – Creating graphics for daily birthday posts, feature articles, event announcements and special programs.
    • Ideating and executing at least one social media campaign – Previous campaigns have highlighted former players who work in law enforcement, lawyers/judges, the arts, politics, finance, etc.
    • Content gathering for newsletter, campaigns, and social media – Scouring the internet for former player stories, available jobs, articles about former player transitions and spotlights on ways to improve health and wellness for use across our platforms.
    • Player Rep Interviews – Outreach and interviews of former player reps and entrepreneurs for NFLPA.com, the NFLPA Former Players App, and social media. The goal is to complete 12 interviews by the completion of the internship.
    • Following all engaged players – Adding correct/verified IG and Twitter handles to PA.Net and making sure all engaged players are followed on X and IG.
    • Invite players to FPSD Facebook group – Sending invitations to players inviting them to follow our private Facebook page.
  • Financial Advisor Program – The intern provides support to the Financial Advisor program to ensure accuracy and credibility.
    • Search social media and make sure the FA's and Institutions in the program aren't using the NFLPA in a false or misleading way misrepresenting what it means to be a RPFA.
    • Aggregate the attendance data from the financial webinar series to deliver to me mid-year and end of year meaningful data.
  • Chapter Program – The intern provides data assistance for our 38 local chapters.
    • Adjust Heat Maps – Creating visual representations of where members reside in chapter cities.
    • Assist with Chapter Audits – Routinely help with chapter audits to make sure that each player’s chapter status accurately reflects their location when they relocate or reactivate their membership with new information.
  • Membership Verification – For resources, events, and rewards, we must ensure that every participant is a verified former player in PA.Net with an active membership. All players who are flagged in this verification get notified and updated.

    • YMCA Participant Listing (Quarterly)
    • Meet Up and Event Attendee Lists (Multiple Times Per Month)
  • Rewards Program – The intern helps ensure our discounts are functioning with routine audits of our links and promo codes.
    • Help produce tracking documents for marketing efforts and fulfillment.
    • Audits processes/codes routinely to ensure efficient experiences for current and former players.
  • All Other Projects as Assigned – The intern assists with many special research and data projects each cycle for all the programs above and urgent needs. 
     

Events & Travel:

The Events Intern will assist with the planning, coordination, and execution of key NFLPA events. The ideal candidate is organized, creative, and eager to gain hands-on experience in event planning and logistics within a professional sports organization. This internship provides a valuable opportunity to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, contributing to high-profile events including the Super Bowl, NFL Draft-week events, Rookie Premiere, and more.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Events and Travel team in the planning and execution of NFLPA events such as the Super Bowl, Rep Meeting, NFL Draft Week events, and Rookie Premiere.
  • Conduct venue research, set up site visits, and assist in brainstorming creative event concepts including themes, catering, décor, entertainment, and space layouts.
  • Help arrange pre-event travel and transportation logistics for NFLPA staff, current and former players, partners, and consultants.
  • Assist in the development of event collateral and branding materials.
  • Assist with the occasional organization and delivery of local events and meetings, both on-site at the NFLPA headquarters and in the Washington, D.C. area.
  • Perform administrative and operational tasks as needed to support event execution and post-event follow-up.
  • Coordinate event shipments and maintain event supply inventory by preparing, tracking, receiving, and organizing materials for on-site and off-site events.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and proactively identifies ways to support team goals and improve event operations. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with design or project management tools such as Canva is a plus.
  • A strong interest in travel and events and/or experience working in sports, events, or hospitality settings is preferred.
     

Salary Cap & Agent Administration

The Salary Cap & Agent Administration Intern will assist both the Salary Cap and Agent Administration functions of the NFLPA, while also providing a unique learning opportunity in a niche area of the sports industry.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Update our annual Signing Bonus deferral charts for rookie contracts.
  • Uploading contracts to the website and PA.net for both internal and external access.
  • Reconcile our list of contracts received with the list of player grids received from the league.
  •  File and organize physical documents in our department file room.
  • Assist the Agent Administration Manager with fall and spring seminars, as well as agent fee trends and agent contact information maintenance.
  • Assist the Salary Cap & Contract Manager by maintaining our files on new contract language for each club, as well as research for player comparison analyses.
  • Assist the Senior Manager with our yearly starter reports and undrafted compensation analyses.
  • Assist the Director with the specialty position reports for Unrestricted Free Agency and contract proposal drafting.
  • Assist with other projects, as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong ability to handle and maintain highly confidential information.
  • Technical skills including competency in MS Office, proficiency in Excel preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be very detail-oriented with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
     

NFL Players, Inc.

Formed in 1994, NFLPI is the licensing and marketing subsidiary of the NFLPA. NFLPI exists to generate revenue and marketing opportunities for the NFLPA and its members.

Consumer Products and Strategy (Licensing)

The Consumer Products and Strategy department is comprised of two verticals: Apparel and Hardlines and Trading Cards, Games & Digital NFL PLAYERS, Inc. is passionate about working with innovative partners in each of these categories to create and market unique products that utilize group licensing rights. Consumer Product and Strategy know NFL players better than anyone and works closely with all NFLPA licensees to help them maximize usage of group player rights. Learn about group licensing rights and the product development cycle through artwork approvals, account management, marketing activation and more.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day relationship and correspondence with category licensees. 
  • Provide assistance with product development, production, marketing, retail distribution and sales, and sample product mailings based on account assignment.
  • Work with licensees to incorporate NFLPA brand identity through all facets of partner product development and monitor compliance, including product review and approval, packaging and marketing and advertising materials featuring NFL players’ intellectual property.
  • Regularly monitor and assess licensee distribution channels and social media to ensure best representation of NFLPA’s intellectual assets and brand identity is consistent with approved materials.
  • Maintain electronic filing systems, including marketing/product design materials, contracts, addendums and renewals.
  • Assist category managers with P&L and budget projections, including input on quarterly and YOY sales and royalty analysis, licensed product performance and category forecasting.
  • Track category licensees’ annual marketing commitments and collaborate across respective account managers to develop and implement fulfillment strategies.
  • Analyze large datasets related to product usage, customer behavior, and licensing agreements to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to product performance, consumer engagement, and licensing revenue.
  • Provide data-driven insights to inform licensing decisions, optimize royalty structures, and identify new licensing opportunities.
  • Brainstorm new and unique licensed product ideas.
  • Assist team with day-to-day requests for licensed product needs throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with other interns to ensure information on upcoming activations and product launches are shared throughout Players Inc..
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
     

Partner Services

The Partner Services team at NFL Players Inc. manages and supports the organization’s licensed partners and sponsorship relationships, ensuring the successful execution of marketing programs, contract deliverables, and player group rights activations. The team serves as a strategic partner to brands, delivering operational excellence and long-term value.

The Partner Services Intern will support the Partner Services team in managing and servicing NFLPI’s partners and marketing programs. This internship offers hands-on experience in brand partnerships, marketing execution, and client service within a fast-paced professional sports environment. The intern will gain exposure to contract management, sponsorship activation, program execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
This role is ideal for students interested in careers in sports business, marketing, partnerships, brand management, and licensing.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Partner Services team in managing day-to-day relationships with NFL/NFLPI sponsors and strategic partners
  • Support the execution of marketing and promotional programs, including tracking deliverables, timelines, and approvals
  • Help coordinate asset approvals, including creative materials, product designs, packaging, and marketing collateral
  • Maintain and update internal tracking documents related to contracts, partner deliverables, approvals, and reporting
  • Conduct market, brand, and partnership research to support new business opportunities and strategic initiatives
  • Assist with the preparation of partner presentations, recaps, and internal reporting
  • Support player marketing initiatives and activation programs, including special events, content campaigns, and appearances
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing, Licensing, Legal, Finance, and Communications teams
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed

Player Services

The Player Services department serves as a primary resource for former and active players by helping identify opportunities and leverage their brand to increase and maximize off-field marketing opportunities.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in maintaining and updating resources related to NFLPI’s revenue-generating operations, including the Business Development Venture Portfolio.
  • Assist in the creation, editing, and distribution of NFLPI departmental materials, including process documents and company-wide programming.
  • Participate in interdepartmental meetings on business operations and new business development to gain insights into Players Inc. operations and revenue generation strategies.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks related to NFLPI operations, including coordinating off-site events, disseminating materials for Senior Management, and handling other assigned projects.
  • Conduct research on trends and new business opportunities to support strategic initiatives.
  • Assist the department with logistics and planning for pre-event activities related to NFLPA assets and properties.
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality. At all times display the utmost discretion, sound judgement, and the highest of ethical and moral standards.  
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed.
     

Commercial Strategy & Legal

Commercial Strategy: The intern provides assistance to the Commercial Strategy team which is focused on driving revenue growth through strategic partnerships and amplifying NFL Players Inc. events and operations.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with all departmental functions including being a resource for players, agents, marketing representatives and NFLPA partners.
  • Help facilitate player procurement by updating contract templates, arranging transportation logistics, and corresponding with stakeholders as directed
  • Aid team with entering player deal information into the CRM system to process payments
  • Assist with ongoing research and data management of players’ hobbies, interests, background, and unique characteristics
  • Assist with the documentation of the Marketing Representation Notice (MRN) process, Player Corporation and W-9 filing
  • Assist with the preparation of partner presentations, recaps, and internal reporting
  • Help team with special projects related, but not limited, to player marketing case studies and internal reporting
  • Provide general administrative and project support as needed

Qualifications:

  • Interest in business, strategy, or entrepreneurship, with exposure through coursework,
    extracurriculars, or internships (graduate-level experience a plus)
  • Analytical and commercially curious - able to connect ideas, trends, and data to potential
    business opportunities
  • Self-starter, highly organized with the ability to work productively in both independent and
    team settings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Legal: This role lends hands on support to the Commercial Strategy & Legal team in NFL Players Inc. on business affairs and legal matters pertaining to the licensing, marketing, and other revenue generating initiatives within the NFLPA’s for-profit marketing and licensing subsidiary. Seeking rising 3Ls with strong research, analytical, and writing skills.

Looking for law students who are permitted to receive academic credit for working full time or
part time for either a semester. Applicants must be able to work in-person Tuesday through
Thursday each week throughout the internship. Please confirm with your law school prior to
applying.

Intern responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Research various business and legal issues surrounding intellectual property, rights of publicity,
    and other matters as assigned.
  • Draft memoranda to inform and guide business and legal affairs team on areas targeted
    for strategic growth.
  • Draft and review licensing/vendor/partner and player agreements.
  • Assist with compliance and corporate governance matters, including drafting and
    implementing internal corporate policies and helping organize internal contract
    management systems.
  • Assist the Corporate Counsel with brand protection and enforcement program.
  • Maintain highest level of confidentiality. At all times display the utmost discretion, sound
    judgment and the highest ethical and moral standards.
  • Work in close conjunction (i.e., daily interaction) with the Vice President of Business and
    Legal Affairs, Senior Business Counsel, and Corporate Counsel on broad range of
    business and legal matters, as assigned.
