In addition to his illustrious career on the field, which included five Pro Bowls and five Super Bowl appearances, Cornelius Bennett has also had a powerful impact off the field.  Bennett, affectionately known as “Biscuit” by his friends and teammates, was selected second overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1987 NFL Draft.  He and the Colts were unable to agree on a contract, so he was dealt to the Buffalo Bills, where he spent most of his 14-year career.

Toward the end of his successful career, Bennett was a Player Rep for the Indianapolis Colts, retiring in 2001 with the team that originally drafted him.  Bennett continued his involvement as a former player, and in 2003, he was elected to the Former Players Steering Committee, now called the Former Players Board of Directors.  Bennett served on this board for an entire decade, being re-elected three times and serving as Chairman for four terms.  He has also served as a former player representative on the Executive Committee since 2010.

His multiple re-elections are no doubt an indication of the respect his colleagues have for the College Football Hall of Famer.  He has been described as a dedicated and selfless worker who, as an even-tempered and thoughtful person, garners respect from everyone when he speaks.
