Dedicating His 2014 NFL Season to Helping Kids Through and Beyond Their Parent’s Cancer
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
C.J. SPILLER JOINS CAMP KESEM’S SCORING FOR GOOD INITIATIVE
Dedicating His 2014 NFL Season to Helping Kids Through and Beyond Their Parent’s Cancer
September 11, 2014 (Los Angeles, CA) -- Camp Kesem, a nationwide community that helps children through and beyond a parent’s cancer is pleased to announce that C.J. Spiller, Running Back of the Buffalo Bills will join the 2014 season of Scoring For Good.
Spiller, a national fan favorite and Clemson University alumni, has pledged to donate $500 to Camp Kesem for every touchdown he makes this season. Additionally, he and teammate, EJ Manuel, will donate a special meet & greet grand prize for the highest score winner of Camp Kesem’s Scoring For Good mobile app.
Endorsed by the NFL Players Association as part of the One Team, One Community initiative, Scoring For Good is a program of Camp Kesem where professional athletes show their support of children impacted by a parent’s cancer by visiting camps, generating awareness, and dedicating their on-field performance to providing the organization’s services to an even larger population of children.
Spiller’s partnership with Camp Kesem and the Scoring For Good initiative is inspired by his late grandmother, Nettie Pearl Allen, who played an important role in his upbringing. Spiller lost his grandmother to a two week battle with lung cancer when he was a freshman in high school. “My grandmother’s death hit me hard and made a significant impact on my life and my career. I know how difficult it is to lose someone to cancer and I want to help give kids, who have to go through it at a young age, the support they need. Camp Kesem provides an incredible service and I am honored to help them expand their impact this season and beyond,” said Spiller.
Spiller joins a phenomenal roster of current NFL players including his teammate EJ Manuel, as well as Tyler Polumbus of the Washington Redskins, Glover Quin of the Detroit Lions, and Anthony Castonzo of the Indianapolis Colts.
This past summer, Camp Kesem served nearly 4,000 children. It costs Camp Kesem $500 to send a child to camp for one all-expenses paid week during the summer. Contributions made by Scoring For Good athletes will allow Camp Kesem to help more children through and beyond their parent’s cancer, all year-round and in new communities nationwide.
“We’re honored to have C.J.’s support with our cause,” said Jim Higley, Camp Kesem Chief Development and Marketing Officer. “His commitment to children and helping family’s in need is exemplary.”
