NFL Players Association Welcomes Liz Allen as Chief External Affairs Officer

Washington, D.C. – The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) is proud to announce the appointment of Liz Allen as its new Chief External Affairs Officer.
At the NFLPA, Allen will lead the union’s communications and public affairs strategy, ensuring that the priorities of NFL players are clearly represented to all stakeholders in football. Her work will focus on strengthening advocacy efforts and amplifying awareness of the union’s mission.
“Strong communication is critical to serving our player membership, and bringing Liz on board reflects our commitment to building a more resilient and strategic union,” said Lloyd Howell, Executive Director of the NFLPA. “As we navigate the rapid pace of change in our sport, her experience will help us elevate our members’ voices and clearly convey their priorities, driving a more player-centric future for the NFL.”
Allen brings more than two decades of experience in communications and public policy, having advised U.S. Presidents, Cabinet Secretaries, and CEOs throughout her distinguished career. Most recently, she served as the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs, overseeing global sports diplomacy initiatives for the U.S. government. Her extensive background also includes roles as Deputy White House Communications Director and Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs, where she led global messaging on national security and foreign policy.
In the private sector, Allen was a Partner at FSG Global, where she worked across industries—including sports and entertainment—on messaging and advocacy strategies, reputation and crisis management, and executive communications.
“I’ve spent my entire career using communication to drive action and advocate for positive change, and I’m thrilled to be combining this professional passion with my lifelong love of football,” Allen said. “The 2,200 members of the NFLPA are the heart and soul of America’s most popular sport, and they must play a leading role in determining how football evolves safely and sustainably. I’m eager to join the NFLPA and stand alongside our staff and members in this fight.”

About the NFL Players Association: The National Football League Players Association is the union for professional football players in the National Football League. Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of ensuring proper recognition and representation of players’ interests. The NFLPA has shown that it will do whatever is necessary to protect the rights of players—including ceasing to be a union, if necessary, as it did in 1989. In 1993, the NFLPA was officially recognized again as the union representing the players and negotiated a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL. The current CBA will govern the sport through the 2030 NFL season. Learn more at www.nflpa.com.
