Road to the Draft: Robert Davis
The NFL Draft marks another exciting opportunity for us to welcome members into the NFLPA family. Leading up to this year’s draft in Philadelphia on April 27-29, we chopped it up with a handful of the prospects. Today, we feature Georgia State wide receiver Robert Davis.
Four years ago, when he caught just 11 passes as a high school senior stuck in a run-heavy offense, Robert Davis might have struggled with the idea of hearing his name called during the NFL Draft. Now, after putting together one of the best careers in Sun Belt Conference history with 222 catches, 3,391 yards and 17 touchdowns, the athletic wide receiver and Collegiate Bowl participant is poised for his NFL dream to come true.
THE FILE
- Height: 6' 3"
- Weight: 219 lbs.
- Ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 seconds at the NFL Combine
What have you been doing to prepare for the NFL?
I’ve just been working out at Georgia State with my strength and conditioning coach, making sure I stay in shape and stay on top of my workout plan so that I’m ready.
What do you think separates you from other NFL prospects?
One would be my athletic ability, and I think I showed that at the combine. My preparation would be the second thing. The amount of work I put in the film room is big for me.
What was the craziest question you got at the NFL combine?
One team asked me, “If I was fruit, which would I be?” I said a banana because it’s a lot taller than all other fruits and it seems like if there was an athletic event, a banana would be the winner.
What’s your typical pregame meal?
Anything with a lot of protein, like spaghetti. I also try to get one vegetable in there because, of course, greens are good for you.
What music is on your game day playlist?
“Me Against The World” by Tupac. That’s the one song I always listen to, just for the message and words. It gets me in the right mindset.
What’s your fashion or style like off the field?
I wouldn’t say I have the best sense of fashion [laughs]. I usually just throw on some sweat pants since I’m working out most of the time. So I don’t put on quote-unquote fashionable clothes, really. It’s all about comfort.
Which team do you think is going to win the NBA Finals?
I can never put my money against LeBron, regardless of how their season has been going. So I’ve got to say the Cavs.
Do you have a hidden talent?
I can draw really well. I like to do it for fun and it helps me clear my mind.
To finish up, here’s one more chance to say why NFL teams should want to draft you. Go.
I’ve always been a hard-working player. If you look past me playing at a small school at Georgia State, I feel like I have talent to compete against some of best in the world. Whatever team gives me a chance, I know I’ll show them right away how much I can contribute in all phases of the game, from catching passes on offense to special teams.
