WASHINGTON, D.C. – Vic Beasley Jr. has been named Week 6 NFLPA Community MVP for raising awareness and funds in the fight against childhood cancer.
“I am honored to be named the NFLPA Community MVP, but moreso that I get to help honor such amazing kids and families through various charitable organizations,” the Falcons defender said. “My motivation comes from the kids, as well as the support from my family, friends, fans and teammates.”
From hitting the runway as the honorary chair for a fashion show fundraiser to launching a season-long tackle and sack challenge, Beasley has served as a strong advocate for kids fighting cancer since he entered the NFL in 2015.
Beasley’s latest outreach effort saw him and several of his Falcons teammates host kids and staff from the Rally Foundation For Childhood Cancer Research for a celebrity waiter dinner on Monday. Near the end of the event, Beasley surprised the foundation with a $10,000 donation.
“Rally has been such an inspiration to me over the last two years. I love being involved with the kids and getting to see their faces light up at various Rally events that I get to be involved in,” Beasley said. “A few of my teammates came to help out [with the dinner], so it turned out to be a really cool event and I really appreciate the support they showed by coming out.”
More funds will funnel to the Rally Foundation in the near future, thanks to Beasley’s second tackle and sack challenge. Donors can pledge a certain dollar amount for each tackle and sack that Beasley, who led the league with 15.5 sacks last year, makes during the 2017 season.
The Pro Bowler’s outreach efforts also include his free football camp in Georgia for middle schoolers, an annual missions trip to Nicaragua and a 5-on-5 charity basketball tournament – all of which stem from his desire to bless those who are less fortunate.
“I have always strived to give back to the community in any way that I can,” Beasley said, “and I will continue to do so through my own charity, the Rally Foundation, mission trips and many other charitable efforts.”
In honor of Beasley being named this week’s Community MVP, the NFLPA will make a $10,000 contribution to his foundation or charity of choice along with an in-kind donation to him on behalf of our supporting partner Delta Private Jets. Beasley, along with the other 2017 Community MVPs, will also become eligible for this year’s Byron Whizzer White Award, which is the highest honor that the NFLPA can bestow upon a player.
The NFLPA Community MVP program recognizes NFL players who are making a positive impact in their local communities.
