Washington’s Laremy Tunsil Selected as Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP
Washington D.C. – Laremy Tunsil has been selected as the first NFLPA Community MVP of the 2026 season for his back-to-school kickoff event, The Giving Tree, where he served 250 children from low-income families throughout the greater D.C. area.
“Being named this week’s NFLPA Community MVP means a lot to me because giving back has always been bigger than football,” Tunsil said. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to support families, empower young people and create experiences that make a difference in my community.”
The Commanders offensive tackle partnered with Grammy-nominated artist and Maryland native Brent Faiyaz to prepare students for the school year. Children and their families were greeted by a local DJ and treated to a pizza bar and ice cream truck while receiving a backpack filled with essential school supplies.
To help students start the school year feeling confident and ready, the event featured professional haircuts, hairstyling and nail services from local barbers and beauticians. Also on site was a styling suite for attendees to pick out a new outfit, shoes and jewelry. The suite was complemented by a customization station where students could personalize their new backpacks, shoes and shirts with designs and airbrushing. Nearby stood a gaming suite, where kids could play “Madden NFL” with Tunsil and Faiyaz.
Giving back to the communities that have supported him has remained a priority for the five-time Pro Bowler. Earlier this year, Tunsil hosted the third annual Single Mothers’ Wellness Event, which gave a group of single moms a day to step away from caring for those around them and receive some well-deserved self-care. Raised by a single mother himself, Tunsil understands the importance of providing these women with a space to feel valued and supported. Attendees were treated to a relaxation lounge, a guided yoga session and curated wellness and beauty gifts.
The Giving Tree and Single Mothers’ Wellness Event are just two of the signature community events hosted by Tunsil and his charitable initiative, Divine Tree. Over the last several years, Divine Tree has invested in youth across Tunsil’s team cities (Miami, Houston and the Washington D.C. area) to create lasting impact in those communities. Initiatives have included a community all-access pantry equipped with food and household essentials, his annual youth football camp, local holiday food drives, and events aimed at offering advice to young entrepreneurs and a space to develop their own businesses.
To further recognize Tunsil being selected as the Week 1 NFLPA Community MVP and support his continued charitable efforts, the NFLPA will donate $10,000 to his nonprofit of choice. Tunsil, along with the other Community MVPs selected this season, will also be eligible for the Alan Page Community Award, which is the NFLPA’s highest player honor for outstanding community service and includes an additional $100,000 donation.
