(June 28, 2022) – Sports Data Labs, Inc. (SD Labs), an award-winning leader in the collection, analysis and distribution of real-time performance data from sensors and sensing systems, and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), through its business arm NFL Players Inc., are proud to announce a landmark partnership aimed at revolutionizing monetization opportunities for NFL players through the collection and use of their performance data. This first-of-its-kind partnership will also help establish the standards and framework for how athletes can monetize their personal data across sports.

SD Labs technologies empower and enable data owners to transform their personal data into a monetizable asset that can be shared and distributed in both an anonymized and identifiable format for profit. Through this new partnership, SD Labs will collect and monetize performance data on behalf of NFL players – including data captured from sensors and sensing systems – for a variety of use cases that potentially includes fantasy sports, gaming, NFTs, and other fan engagement verticals. The partnership will also leverage NFL player performance data to unlock new insights with a goal of improving player health and safety and supporting medical research initiatives.

“We are honored to become a long-term partner of the NFLPA to help create entirely new value for NFL players,” said Mark Gorski, Co-Founder and CEO of Sports Data Labs. “The NFLPA is the preeminent players association that has pioneered the protection and monetization of athlete-based intellectual property. We are excited to support the NFLPA’s mission to promote and advance the economic opportunities for NFL players through the use and commercialization of their performance data.”

As part of the long-term partnership, the NFLPA has secured an ownership stake in SD Labs. In addition, Sean C. Sansiveri, General Counsel and Head of Business Affairs for NFL Players Inc., will join SD Labs as a Board Observer.

“Our partnership with Sports Data Labs is a big step we’re taking to empower NFL players to monetize their own performance data,” said Sansiveri. “Sports Data Labs is a pioneer in creating new commercial opportunities for player performance data, with industry-leading expertise in collecting and distributing data on behalf of other global sports properties. We are thrilled to partner with them and unlock new value for our players.”

About the NFLPA

The National Football League Players Association (“NFLPA”) is the union for professional football players in the National Football League. Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of assuring proper recognition and representation of players’ interests. The NFLPA has shown that it will do whatever is necessary to assure that the rights of players are protected—including ceasing to be a union, if necessary, as it did in 1989. In 1993, the NFLPA again was officially recognized as the union representing the players and negotiated a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement (“CBA”) with the NFL. The current CBA will govern the sport through the 2030 NFL season.
