Philadelphia’s Nakobe Dean Named Week 9 NFLPA Community MVP
Washington, D.C. – Nakobe Dean has been selected as the Week 9 NFL Players Association (NFLPA) Community MVP after helping hundreds of families and children in need through his Community Giveback Doubleheader Week.
On October 21, the Philadelphia Eagles linebacker and his Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation teamed up with the Oral Health Impact Project to launch their second annual school tour, providing more than 100 students with free dental cleanings, screenings and supplies at Julia de Burgos Elementary School. Dean also spoke with the students about the importance of good dental hygiene as part of the five-date tour, which will continue throughout the season.
Just four days later, Dean was back in the community for another charitable effort, hosting a giveback event for students and families at KIPP Philadelphia Preparatory Academy. The duo donated 1,000 winter coats to help local youth stay warm during the colder months. The event also provided 600 meals, 200 free haircuts, and — through a partnership with Moravia Health — 300 blood pressure and diabetes screenings for attendees.
“I’m honored to be named an NFLPA Community MVP. Giving back affords me the opportunity to uplift others by showing that small acts of kindness can make a big difference,” Dean said. “My mom instilled in me the priceless value of helping others, which motivates me to continuously find new ways to serve and inspire others.”
This collaborative effort reflects the mission of Dean’s Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation, which promotes kindness and community impact through ongoing service initiatives, including holiday toy drives, school supply distributions, football camps and youth outreach programs.
This past summer, the fourth-year pro held a back-to-school giveaways in Mississippi and Chester, Pennsylvania. The latter event saw more than 1,000 backpacks distributed along with 200 free haircuts, fresh produce financial literacy courses and numerous health screenings. Dean also held an engineering program at the Urban Youth Racing School in Philadelphia with John Cohen, who is the first African-American NASCAR team owner.
Dean’s commitment to service dates back to his college days at the University of Georgia. In 2020, he helped launch the Dawgs for Pups program, which provided direct support to youth in the Athens community. His leadership in that initiative earned him a spot on the 2021 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, where he was named team captain among 22 players nationwide recognized for their dedication to community service.
In recognition of Dean being named NFLPA Community MVP for Week 9, the NFL Players Association will donate $10,000 to the Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation. Along with the other Community MVPs from this season, he will also be eligible for the Alan Page Community Award, which is the NFLPA’s highest player honor and includes an additional $100,000 donation.
As part of a new supporting partnership with GoFundMe, fans can now also make a donation directly to the Kind Hearts 4 Lyfe Foundation here. All donations are tax-deductible and will go directly to the player's selected nonprofit.
Now in its 12th season, the NFLPA’s award-winning Community MVP campaign is part of the union’s continued efforts to support the year-round civic outreach and engagement of its player members. Community MVPs are selected by a committee of NFLPA staff that reviews the weekly nominees, which are submitted by players, agents, marketing representatives and NFL team staff.
