New York’s Darius Slayton Named Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP

Washington D.C. – Darius Slayton has been named the Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP for contributing $50,000 to provide gifts and household needs to 24 New York families through charitable events hosted by his Left-Hand Right-Hand (LHRH) Foundation.

“It is a big honor to be named the Week 16 NFLPA Community MVP,” the New York Giants receiver said. “This means a lot to me because I try to help out any way, shape or form that I can.”

On December 9, Slayton and his LHRH Foundation hosted their third annual holiday gift giveaway for families from the NYPD-led Far Rockaway, Harlem and Bronx Giants football programs. Slayton and his parents, Pamela and Eddie, worked with the programs’ NYPD officers to identify eight underprivileged families in each of the three boroughs so that he could lend them support. Along with his Giants teammate Adoree Jackson, educators and NYPD members, the group hosted the families for an evening filled with gifts and food, thanks to Slayton’s generous donation.

The Far Rockaway, Harlem and Bronx Giants programs aim to improve police-community relations through mentorship, tutoring and the opportunity to play flag football and other sports for 150 boys across 20 schools between the three boroughs. Supported by the New York Giants, New York City Police Foundation, NYPD and NYC Department of Education, the programs have achieved remarkable success. Since the program’s inception, no boy has had to repeat a grade or take summer school, 1,080 hours of after-school tutoring are provided annually, and more than 15 boys have graduated onto high school

“Giving back is something I was raised to do by my parents and something I have been able to do ever since I’ve been in the league,” Slayton said. “My family and I are always looking to reach back and help the communities we are a part of, and I am blessed to receive an award like this. I am looking forward to continuing my community work for the rest of my career and beyond.”

In his six seasons with the Giants, Slayton has personally provided over $150,000 in funding and resources to support these programs. He also organized an annual car show in Far Rockaway to educate boys on diverse career paths, and he has been an advocate for the growth of girls’ flag football, serving as a captain during the Giants’ Flag Field Day event.

Slayton’s philanthropic efforts have earned significant recognition, including the United Way of New York City’s “Hometown Hero” Award at the 2024 Gridiron Gala, which raised more than $2.3 million for children and families in New York City. Beyond his team city, the LHRH Foundation hosts a free youth football camp annually in his hometown of Atlanta and provides meals and household items to families in Georgia, Texas, New Jersey and New York throughout the year.

In recognition of Slayton being named the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 16, the NFLPA will donate $10,000 to his foundation or charity of choice. In turn, Slayton will take part in a special visit to a local school, children’s hospital, or community center. Along with the other 2024-25 Community MVPs, he will also be eligible for the Alan Page Community Award, which is the NFLPA’s highest player honor and includes an additional $100,000 donation.

For its 11th season, the Community MVP program is teaming up with two supporting partners: Young Minds Inspired (YMI) and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA). As the nation's leading provider of free educational outreach programs, YMI will bring this year’s NFLPA Community MVPs to classrooms across the country through lesson plans about community service, inspired by the players' philanthropic work. BBBSA is also inviting this season’s Community MVPs to partner with its 230+ agencies across the country, providing these athletes with more opportunities to engage with youth through its volunteer-supported mentoring network.

The Community MVP campaign is part of the NFLPA's continued efforts to support the year-round civic outreach and engagement of its player members. Please visit the NFLPA Community MVP website to learn more about the program.

About the NFL Players Association:

The National Football League Players Association is the union for professional football players in the National Football League. Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of assuring proper recognition and representation of players’ interests. The NFLPA has shown that it will do whatever is necessary to assure that the rights of players are protected—including ceasing to be a union, if necessary, as it did in 1989. In 1993, the NFLPA again was officially recognized as the union representing the players and negotiated a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL. The current CBA will govern the sport through the 2030 NFL season. Learn more at www.nflpa.com.
